CO-WORKERS
IN THE VINEYARD OF THE LORD:
LAITY
IN THE CHURCH YESTERDAY AND TODAY
A
ROME
SEMINAR
28 June - 4 July 2007
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The vocation of the laity in the Church is not something new to our
own day and age. From the earliest days of the Church, laity have
always been co-workers in the vineyard of the Lord. As
circumstances changed and as needs arose, they have responded to
this responsibility in diverse ways.
The purpose of this Rome Seminar is to explore some of the unique
resources found in Rome in order to understand more deeply the
diverse ways in which the laity have responded to the Lord’s call to
prayer and service through the ages. Visits to important sites and
presentations will offer an historical context for reflecting on
what it means to be a co-worker in the vineyard of the Lord today.
Seminar participants will also have the chance for further
enrichment through contact with people involved in lay ecclesial
ministry from different continents, and through dialogue with
members of the Roman Curia who will give participants the
opportunity to consider the ecclesial vocation of the laity in a
truly Catholic context.
