Of Pearls and Prodigals: Hearing Jesus' Parables as Jewish Stories

The Lay Centre at Foyer Unitas
Of Pearls and Prodigals: Hearing Jesus' Parables as Jewish Stories

VPI 2018-2019 - Thursday, 21 February at 5 p.m.

“Of Pearls and Prodigals: Hearing Jesus' Parables as Jewish Stories”

Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, University professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies and Mary Jane Werthan Professor of Jewish Studies (Vanderbilt Divinity School and College of Arts and Science) will  discuss how understanding Jesus’ parables requires understanding Jesus’ own Jewish context. How would the parables have been heard by Jesus’ original Jewish listeners, and how might those original messages still hold meaning for Jews and Christians, and everyone, today?

The Lay Centre is located at Largo della Sanita’ Militare, 60, Rome, 00184.
