Pilgrims on the Road to Assisi: The Role of World Religions in the Search for Justice and Peace

Rev. Felix Körner, S.J.
Thursday, 13 October 2011
09:30-12:00

On 27 October 2011, Pope Benedict XVI will mark the 25th anniversary of the historic meeting of religious leaders in Assisi, the home of St. Francis, by making a pilgrimage there with other Christians, religious leaders, and other seekers of truth. What is the background of this day of reflection, dialogue and prayer for peace and justice? Why Assisi? What are the hopes associated with this gathering? What message does it give to all people of good will?

This opening session will include the presentation of the 2011-2012 program, two forty-five minute sessions with ample time for dialogue and coffee in the garden.

The morning will conclude with the Celebration of the Eucharist.

Felix Körner S.J. teaches in the
Faculty of Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University and is an expert in interreligious dialogue.

This five week course will explore the deeper meaning of this essential Christian vision of life and its concrete application to some of today’s most challenging bioethical issues.  We will begin by examining how care for one’s own health and the health of others is an essential part of the Christian vocation.  We will then survey the basic Christian faith based principles for moral decision making about questions of medical care, and see how these principles can guide us in recognizing and responding to specific moral questions and dilemmas that arise in trying to promote and realize a true Christian reverence for the gift of life.

VPI 2012 LENTEN RETREAT WEEKEND

A Hope that Does Not Disappoint (Romans 5:5)

Rev. Stephen Rehrauer, C.Ss.R.
Friday, 24 February - Sunday, 26 February 2012
at the Casa d'Esercizi Spirituali dei Passionisti,
Piazza SS Giovanni e Paolo, 13 ROMA

Hope is the lynchpin that holds faith and love together, enabling us to experience magnanimity and joy in our lives.  Rediscovering authentic Christian hope is the remedy for the pessimism and cynicism that close our our heart to the other.  In our time of prayer this year, we will reflect upon the theological virtue of hope.  This hope, which St. Paul reminds us never disappoints, is the Christian way of responding to the challenges of life in an imperfect world.

This weekend Lenten retreat will include lodging and meals at the retreat house, lectures, time for personal prayer, opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and daily celebrations of the Eucharist and the Liturgy of the Hours. The retreat begins with a welcome at 17:00 on Friday evening and concludes at 14:30, or after lunch, on Sunday.

Rev. Stephen Rehrauer, C.Ss.R., is an Associate Professor of Moral Theology at the Accademia Alfonsiana in Rome.
